Conducive Learning Environment
Play-Based Learning Environment
Play-based learning environment is an age-appropriate, child-centered approach where learning occurs through purposeful, self-selected play.
A play-based learning environment is essential for supporting a child’s holistic growth and development. For children to learn effectively, both indoor and outdoor environments must be safe, organized, and conducive to exploration. Essential materials should be open-ended, accessible, and reflect the children's own work and culture.
- During the field visit to the Rinpung ECCD Centre,
the learning environment was observed to be well-structured
and thoughtfully designed to meet children’s needs. The rooms,
play materials, chairs, and tables were neatly organized and
arranged according to the children’s level.
- Materials were clearly labelled, helping children make
independent choices and develop responsibility. Facilities
such as low water taps and a separate altar room reflected a
child-friendly and culturally responsive environment.
Outdoor Environment
The outdoor environment, although limited in space,
provided a pleasant and engaging setting. Natural elements
such as gardens, sand areas, and physical play equipment
encouraged exploration, creativity, and safe risk-taking
under adult supervision.
A conducive play-based environment is important because it promotes active participation, social interaction, confidence, and creativity among children.
Interactive Activities:
- Teachers can further strengthen play-based learning by integrating interactive activities such as storytelling, role-play, group games, art activities, nature exploration, and hands-on learning experiences that encourage children to learn joyfully through play.
- Sketch a comprehensive environment that includes the classroom, playground, and even spaces for parents.
